Anya Kerr RMT
Registered Massage Therapist
Services Offered: Registered Massage Therapy
Anya was introduced to bodywork at the age of six when a massage table was set up in her family home, sparking the beginning of a lifelong interest in manual therapies. As she built upon life experiences and grew, so did her understanding of the benefits (and often necessity) of a broad based approach to health and wellbeing.
At 9, Anya was diagnosed with a neurological condition that dramatically and permanently reduced her vision to tthe status of “legally blind” with 20/200 vision. Six years later, she was diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, which she struggled with for eight years. These physical challenges gave her a keen appreciation for the benefits of creative, holistic, and supportive approaches to health and optimum function. They also took her off the beaten track, and led her to a life abroad for most of her 20’s.
In 2010, Anya attended the Chichén Itzá School of Massage Therapy in Guadalajara, Mexico, and officially began her career as a massage therapist. Working from palm-shaded beaches, Argentine boutique spas, and health and yoga retreats across Latin America, with the guidance of mentors and collaboration with other local and international practitioners, Anya explored and built upon her practice. Her continual interest in research and the rigorous science behind anatomy, physiology and neuroscience brought her back to Canada to study further at Sutherland-Chan School of Massage Therapy. With her personal experience living with disabilities, complemented by her background as a social justice and diversity activist, Anya took every opportunity to work with people with complex conditions, such as paralysis, post-thoracic and -abdominal surgery, HIV/AIDS, spinal cord injury and stroke. All the while expanding her skills to help address the stress, tension, and soft tissue pain that many experiences.
From both a personal and clinical perspective, Anya believes strongly in the importance of tailoring treatments to the unique experiences and goals of each individual, and is enthusiastic about creating the best treatment experience for everyone.
Anya is a member in good standing with the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario (CMTO) and the Registered Massage Therapists Association of Ontario (RMTAO).
